NovaRad Fact Sheet

Industry Profile   Hospitals, clinics and radiology centers are aware that a filmless environment is rapidly becoming reality. However, for most small single-site facilities to large multi-site national hospital and radiology center groups that are looking to install a picture archiving communications system (PACS) the other reality is the cost of a PACS is prohibitively expensive and can carry enormous upfront expenditures for hardware, software and training. Early on, NovaRad identified a need for high quality, high performance PACS that was affordable for facilities with smaller operating budgets.

Company

Established: 1990
Headquartered: 758 E. Utah Valley Drive, Suite 200, American Fork, UT 84003
Installations: More than 300 nationwide (including Teleradiology)
Privately Owned

The PACS company, founded by neuroradiologist, entrepreneur, and businessman Dr. Wendell Gibby originally as NovaRad, focused on teleradiology, MRI coil and software. Dr. Gibby did not begin with the idea of creating a company, instead he began producing coils and teleradiology software for his own use because he was not satisfied with the products that were available. As demand grew for the coils and software, the company originated and efforts accelerated to develop additional superior, yet cost effective, radiology technologies, software and accessories.

January, 2002 marked the company's sale of its first full PACS.  NovaRad currently is installing 8-10 full PACS per month.

Products & Services

NovaRad offers HIPAA-compliant systems for Nuclear Medicine, MRI, CT, Ultra Sound and Computed Radiology (CR) modalities. All its systems are open and scalable, running Windows software and housed on Dell or HP hardware. In addition, all NovaRad products are brokerless, enabling information to be transferred from hospital information systems to the PACS, eliminating the need to purchase additional hardware or software. The company's complete product line includes:

    Archive Systems
  • NovaPACS, a complete, enterprise-level filmless picture archiving communication system (PACS) features clean screen versus a traditional fixed menu and the flexibility of mouse and/or keyboard shortcuts for panning, scrolling, zooming, rotating, window leveling and other functions. The mouse and keyboard shortcuts are customizable, and enable a radiologist to remain focused on the image and not on menu and other screen-based commands.
  • NovaPACS Enterprise Archive for fast image retrieval and extended, redundant storage. Developed for facilities with multiple locations, the NovaPACS Enterprise Archive automatically synchronizes real-time storage of both the on-site archive and the off-site central web archive, enabling secure, password-protected image retrieval from any web-enabled computer from any location.
  • NovaArchive uses wavelet technology and RAID 5 drive system for both 90-day uncompressed and seven-year compressed on-site storage.
  • NovaWeb enables secure on- and off-site web access and file sharing of archived DICOM images and radiologist reports.
    Archive Systems
  • NovaRIS, the web-based information system tracks patients through the entire radiology process, from the receptionist to the technician, to the transcriptionist and on to the end of the billing cycle.
  • NovaView, a multi-monitor workstation that supports full DICOM query, retrieval of images point to point or via the Internet, and high-resolution image viewing. Compatible with any PC hardware, NovaView can generate work lists by exam type, anatomic location or any variety of criteria the radiologist determines and also enables auto comparison of archive and new studies.
    Support
  • Training & Technical Support, to assist in a successful installation, consulting, training and 24-hour web and phone-based technical support services are included with each system purchase.
    Accessories
  • NovaSafe stores a copy of the seven-year archive offsite.
  • NovaScan digitally scans legacy film modalities and attaches a DICOM header for viewing on any DICOM compliant system.
  • NovaPrint prints images with grease pencil, text, and/or measurement annotations.
  • Patient CD Burner to store images and radiologist's reports for viewing on any home computer.
  • CR and Laser printing

Pricing   NovaPACS' pricing is based on file size and yearly procedure quantities, not on the traditional per click basis. This pricing structure enables hospitals and radiology centers to customize the package to meet both their capacity and budget needs now and in the future.

Installations   NovaRad currently has full-service installations and teleradiology sites in more than 300 hospitals, clinics, radiology and diagnostic centers spanning the nation.
